What does the Film Grain effect do in Ether-MOSH?

It adds animated multiscale and colored noise weighted toward source midtones, plus a separate warm halo around bright regions.

Is digital film grain the same as real photographic grain?

No. Photographic grain comes from a film emulsion and processing; Ether-MOSH creates a GPU stylization designed to evoke some of its visible texture.

Where is Film Grain, and what settings should I start with?

Open the FX panel, choose Atmosphere, and add Film Grain. Start at 0.28 Amount and 0.22 Halation, then judge the moving result at final display size.

Can I use Film Grain for print and projection?

Yes. Proof print texture at final resolution, test projection on the real surface, keep essential text clean, avoid rapid high-contrast cuts, and provide a calmer alternate when needed.

Make the Film Grain Effect Show Its Receipts

A practical audit of animated grain, warm halation, and the suspicious executive who keeps calling flat gray noise ‘cinematic.’

Quick answer

Ether-MOSH Film Grain adds animated, colored, midtone-weighted texture plus a warm halo around bright areas. Amount controls grain strength; Halation controls highlight bleed. It is a GPU stylization of photographic image structure, not a film-stock measurement or restoration tool. Find it under Atmosphere and start near 0.28 Amount, 0.22 Halation.
